Itineraries

Day 1

Melbourne - Mildura

On the way from Melbourne to Gannawarra, then further to Mildura, we are to drive through typical Australian fields and farmland as well as bushland. Wheat is the most successful crop of Victoria, followed by barley, canola, oat and lentils. We will pass through fruit plantations like apple, pear, and citrus fruits of all kinds, stone fruits and nut trees. Arriving at the campsite in Mildura, I will set up the camper trailer with an outlook of Murray River.

Day 2

Mildura - Mungo Park

After a delicious breakfast by the bank of the longest river in Australia (2500 km), we will pass the border to New South Wales and drive towards Mungo National Park, where we will spend the day. Great expectations are in store, like this park in on the list of World Heritage sites. Mungo National Park covers a vast area of 2400 square kilometres full of unique flora and fauna like the Gould’s goanna, the biggest lizard of the park. The area, though, is especially known for the amazing archeological find of the Mungo-man, the world’s oldest evidence of human cremation, as well as the Mungo-woman and fossilized human footprints dating up to 40.000 years. Arriving late afternoon at the same campsite by the Murray River, we’ll settle down with a well-deserved meal.

Day 3

Mildura - The Grampians

From Mildura will drive through diverse landscapes and old mining towns to reach the mountain range, The Grampians. Along the way, we will stop at Pink Lake to take a look at a salt lake. Once arrived at our destination, I will set up the camper trailer for the next two nights. This evening you will be tasting kangaroo Carpaccio. Hoping for a clear night, we will be able to enjoy a starry night sky.

Day 4

The Grampians

After a good nights sleep, we will start the morning with light trekking, exploring the camping grounds. There is rich wildlife in this area and we’re hoping to find kangaroos, wallabies, emus and a variety of parrots. Throughout the day, we will go for light treks in the Grampians. Among others, we will walk to The Balconies that reveals a phenomenal view across the valley. We will also witness the beauty of the waterfall, MacKenzie Falls. We will arrive back at the campsite by late afternoon, where you can sit and let the impressions of day sink in with a good meal.

Day 5

The Grampians - Tower Hill - Great Ocean Road

On the last day, we will have to be ready to leave the camping grounds by 8 am, right after breakfast. Once again driving through the Grampians, we will continue our search for wildlife. Our first stop of the day will be at an old volcanic crater, Tower Hill, where we are trekking for an hour, looking for koalas, echidnas, reptiles and black swans as well as kangaroos, wallabies and emus. By lunchtime, we will be driving towards Great Ocean Road, one of the worlds most astonishing coastlines. There will be many stops along the coast, like the Twelve Apostles that are grand rock formations ascending from the ocean. Our estimated arrival in Melbourne is at 7 pm.
